"Roan, Jacob and Celest"

There is a project that I have been working on off and on for over a year now. It started with a few character sketches... a necromancer's daughter, a giant dwarf, a clumsy witch, a mapmaker with no pants... and from there morphed into a series of unrelated tales, each more fantastic than the last. Over time I realized that the handful of stories I had produced were all taking place in the same basic world, so why not make it official?

So my Wuldi was born.

A land inundated with magic and filled to the brim with heores and monsters and with as much comedy as tragedy and downright silliness. A place that is full of pieces of me and everything I love about storytelling.

Elves, dwarves, trolls and humans. Dragons of course, but only four. Wizards and Witches, a thieves guild, gypsies and pious zombies. Im really very tickled by my bible thumping undead. Of course their bible is a slightly revised necromantic tome of magic they still call the "Necronomnom", but what other type of holy book would a legion of undead have?

And the story... at times I think I should write it into a novel rather than illustrate it as a comic. But then I remember its roots, a few simple character drawings in the margin of a page, and I remember who I am, an artist before everything else, and the thoughts of having more text than pictures flees from my mind.

So in coming days as I polish up the plot and script and finalize character designs in anticipation of actually having some real time to dedicate to it (Yay end of school!) I will be keeping my juices flowing by posting here.

Inspiration

Bouguereau tickles my fancy and I sometimes like to doodle based on his paintings. Sometimes they lead to conclusions that I never thought of. For example, the above image led me to create a character, a necromancer's daughter, who would start a creative chain reaction that would result in the creation of my opus. The script of which is currently being worked on.

 Lines for the cover and title page of "The Wizard in the Tower", an original illustrated story I am working on for class. I believe I posted the thumbnails a day or two ago.

I have to say that I love dafont.com. I was able to find the perfect fonts for this project at the most wonderful price there is: free.

Will be posting more lines in the coming days as well as full color finishes.

late night gods

So I find myself staying up late(early) making GaiaOnline avatars when I stumble upon one that sparks a little something in my mind, and the next thing I know I have my tablet out and Im scribbling away.

 

And so the blind sisterly gods of lightning and fire are born.

Thea is the sister of storms. Crowned with lightning, she dances upon the clouds, letting them take her where they will. Her aerial romping and laughter beget thunder and rain. She sees the world with the winds that she summons with a wave of her fan, every surface that they press against a delight in her mind's eye.

Hane is the sister of fire. Crowned with flames, she favors a comfortable dry hearth where her fire can glow and grow. She sees the world with her fingers, reaching out and touching and scorching all that she can find, leaving char and soot in her wake. A wave of her fan goads flames hotter and higher till only her sister can douse them.

Was peddling a mini comic at Wondercon today. This is may favorite page from it. Ed Mathews and I are working on several short stories involving the same characters that will be combined in a full color anothology.

Some pages from a project I am working on. Its a science fiction story set in a future where robots have outlived us and are searching for meaning in their existence.

addendum: the project is not called "the Breathless" and these particular pages probably wont be a part of it, though the characters definitely will be... with different names
